Obituary
Mrs. Maxine Nicholson, 100, of Dunnellon, passed away at her daughter’s residence in Inverness on Monday, October 2, 2017. Born in Crystal River, Mrs. Nicholson lived in this area her entire life. She had been a member of First Baptist Church of Dunnellon since joining there at age 19, and taught Sunday School there for 70 years.
Survivors include her 2 daughters, Rebecca Osterhout of Inverness, and Marion Kay George, Trenton, TN; her 2 sons Edwin and Dennis Nicholson, both of Morriston, her sister Lucy Abernathy, Pulaski, TN, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mrs. Nicholson led a full and busy life. She was a gifted poet and author of short stories and one novel, and had some of her work nationally published. She was also an accomplished portrait painter. She was part owner of the former Sheffield Insurance Agency, and served the City of Dunnellon as its first female City Council Member. It was only fitting that at a party celebrating her 100th Birthday in September the Mayor of Dunnellon presented her with a proclamation for her contributions to her community.
Memorial services for Mrs. Nicholson will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Dunnellon with Pastor Russ Randall officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until service time.
